Nina’s Italian Dressing
This was the only salad dressing we ever had when I was growing up. It is still my favorite Italian dressing.
Nina loved salad of all kinds. She was perfectly happy with a bowl of iceberg lettuce and this dressing. She had a bottle that was made by Good Seasonings and sold with their packets of Italian Dressing mix. The bottle had little measurements on the side for Water, Oil and Vinegar. Then you added the packet and shook it up.
Since these bottles aren’t as common as they used to be, I have translated the recipe into measurements, but the bottle instructions are at the bottom.
Yield: 1 bottle of dressing
Time: 3 minutes
Ingredients:
½ cup vinegar
½ cup oil
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp dry mustard
Instructions:
Pour oil and vinegar into a jar. Pour spices into liquid. Cover and shake well. Best if made at least a day ahead. Shake well before each use.
If you have a Good Seasons salad dressing cruet you can use the lines provided. Fill with vinegar to the water line and oil to the oil line. Don’t use water. Continue as above.
